In the run up to Christmas, Chris and I made a concerted effort to decorate our home. Many evenings and weekends were spent painting and although it wasn’t enjoyable at the time, I am really pleased with the results. Things are certainly looking a lot brighter and modern in our home. I would be lying if I said things were in any way complete, Chris and I have a particular talent for starting things we never finish, but one area of our home now looks rather lovely (even if I do say so myself).
I have been working from home for nearly 5 years now and most of that time has been divided between working from our kitchen table and the sofa. It feels like a bit of a luxury now that I have a desk and a little corner of our home to work from. I have to say, it actually makes working more enjoyable. It’s amazing what your surroundings can do for your concentration and mood.
One of the things that makes me happiest about my mini office, is that it is literally the one and only place in the house that stays tidy. Our bedroom is on the top floor of the house, far away from the children’s toys and general clutter of the home. Long may it stay that way. Do you think it would be weird for me to erect a little cordon around the area? Yes, it probably would be a little.
Over the last few months, I have slowly collected things for my home office. The desk and chair came first, followed by some tiny little succulents (of which I have already killed one) and finally some really lovely bits from Laura Ashley’s home range. Laura Ashley kindly sent me this water hyacinth storage basket, wood and brass lamp base, large cream lamp shade, fern print and geometric brass terrarium to finish of the space and I am really pleased with how it all looks. My desk felt a bit empty before these additions, which have added a much more finished look to my office. The only downside being that the rest of my bedroom now looks unloved in comparison and I want to fill it with lots more lovely things, like these.
Working from home can be a bit lonely at times and this can leave you feeling a bit unmotivated every now and then. So if you’re in a bit of a home working rut, then I totally recommend you giving your home office a little refresh. As silly as it might sound, I feel like doing this in our home has made me feel more motivated and positive about work. My new office is tucked into a small corner of our bedroom, that may otherwise have been unused, which shows that you don’t need oodles of space to make a home office work for you.
