Paint is one of the quickest, cheapest and most impactful ways to update your home. Read on for a few simple paint ideas, that will instantly add interest to your home!
Ceilings are an often forgotten wall in our homes, which can be a missed opportunity!
Most people’s ceilings are painted white and largely ignored. Aside from a fresh coat of brilliant white every few years, we hardly give them a thought. Until now, that is …
If you follow interiors accounts on Instagram, then you’ve likely noticed the trend for bold ceilings online. To dip your toe in the trend, you could paint your ceiling in the same colour as your walls, as below.
Here, extending the rich green onto the ceiling creates a cosy and inviting space.
Or you could make an even greater statement by choosing a bold, contrasting ceiling colour and continue that down, in a section, and through the woodwork.
I love how this clever trick draws your eye down the hallway below!
Half Painted Walls
I am a huge fan of the half painted walls trend. As someone historically wary of bold colour, this is a welcome way for me to experiment.
You can try this paint idea by mixing colours with whites, or colour on colour, or you could even paint out the floor in the same colour as the lower section of the wall, for an even greater impact.
When it comes to woodwork, I prefer the skirting painted in the same colour as the lower section of the wall. This helps to keep things from looking too stripy, which can be visually distracting.
When I decorated Elodie’s room (below), I was tempted to paint her floorboards in the same shade of pink, which I think I now regret not doing so.
What do you think? Should I get my paint brush out again and match them to the walls?
How you finish your floor is a matter of personal preference, however, I much prefer floorboards over wall to wall carpet.
As cosy as carpet can be, you just can beat the character that comes from being able to see a bit of wood. Painted, or otherwise.
We will remove the carpet and repaint our staircase in the coming weeks, though at the current moment, I cannot decide whether to repaint it light or dark. I think I’m veering closer to white, than dark, but it changes every moment!
Colour Blocking to Create Frames
Another great paint idea to interest to your home, is to paint blocks of colour to frame furniture of artwork against walls.
To get a clean crisp line on your paint, I would recommend Frog Tape over own brands. In my experience, these tend to bleed much less than cheaper tapes.
